TIME MACHINE SERIES

I have been a little behind with the featured artists, but now that I am done with moving it’s time to get that area back in gear. Thank to the previous featured artist Jeff Ramirez, you can still see his work in the archive. This month’s featured artist is Los Angeles based painter Mia Araujo. Mia recently opened her first solo show at the Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles entitled Into the Woods. I was able to send Mia some questions for a mini-interview, and we have some paintings, close-ups, and even some drawings/sketches to show.
Also, from now until June 5th, Mia is having a mini-print giveaway. If you head over to her blog you will see the full details and learn how to score a signed mini-print from her latest show. Mia Araujo Blog. After you have done that, click the image below to check out the gallery/interview.

Allison Torneros has just re-launched her online shop, and to help get it back in full gear she is having a sale of original paintings. The new series is entitledTime Machine, and features 30, 9″ x9″ mixed media paintings for only $80 each. They are going pretty fast, however I still wanted to share them here. Each painting is acrylic, spray paint, and graphite on paper and has that amazing feel Allison’s large scale works have. I love that idea that each piece looks completely random, as if she started laying down paint and allowed it to guide the entire process.

CREATURES OF THE NIGHT - GOREZONE

Last year Jackie Gallagher opened her first solo show in San Francisco at the Articulated Gallery entitled Of Melancholy & Monkey Business. The show was amazing, you can check out the review and images here. Jackie is back in SF and the Articulated for another solo show, this one entitled Creatures of the Night. I headed over for the reception, and this time I even used a worse camera than I did before, sorry about that. Either way, we have some images of the works from the show, and more will be added to the galleries website in the next week or so.
The last show Jackie had at the gallery focused on monkeys, mermaids, water creatures, and all sorts of amazing creepiness. This time around, Jackie held onto her signature style of creepy imagery, and added some candy color and elements to each of the paintings. The smaller works in this show were also painted on layers, so she would create the main painting, add a thick layer of resin, and then add more painted details. Much like the first solo show she had the gallery, this show was very cohesive and was successful in showing that Jackie has a very strong style, and clear path that she is going to take. We just need to make sure we are along for the ride.
If you haven’t done so already, make sure you head over and check out Jackie’s homepage for more work, as well as upcoming news and events. I did take a video of the opening night, which I hope to have finished up in the next week. Until then, take a look at the images below. Paintdead.com – Portfolio of Jackie Gallagher
